Air and Water Quality

To protect our air and water resources and to ensure proper disposal of waste materials, WKE has invested millions in pollution controls for the facilities we operate. The efficient operation of these control systems demonstrates WKE's continuing commitment to the protection of the environmental resources in the area of the plant sites.

WKE is also committed to maintaining the quality of the Ohio and Green Rivers by strictly complying with the water discharge permits issued to the facilities by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Our continuing commitment includes a biomonitoring program that tests the discharge waters with living organisms, such as water fleas and minnows, to demonstrate that the discharges will have no impact on the aquatic life in the river systems.
