Demand Conservation today!

Electric meter closeupYou can help the environment and save energy, too. Whether you choose our traditional switch program, which pays you to help the environment, or our programmable thermostat option where you have the potential to realize year-round savings, you can "Demand Conservation."

Sign up for our Demand Conservation program today. You can reduce energy demand by signing up for a device that we connect to your central air conditioner, heat pump or electric water heater, or a programmable thermostat.

Demand Conservation helps reduce peak demand, which enables us to use our power plants more efficiently and delay the addition of new ones.

As a bonus with the switch option, we'll credit your utility bill $5 per month (up to $20 annually) for each of the four summer months (June through September) for each central air conditioning unit.

With the programmable thermostat option, you won't be eligible for the $20 annual credit; however, if used properly, the thermostat offers you the ability to reduce your year-round heating and cooling bill by 10% - 20% each year.

Additional bonuses apply for water heaters. These programs are available only in areas where our radio signal is accessible.

Home Improvement Safety Tips

Man on a ladderIf you're adding on to your home, plan the roofline of any new extension carefully. If you're adding a new room or a screened-in porch, make sure it won't interfere with existing power lines. Any power line that will come near the completed addition may have to be moved before you begin. Call us before you build.

Avoid putting in a tool shed or playground equipment, such as a swing set, under power lines. If a line falls, someone could be injured or killed.

If a new extension violates any building guidelines, the problem will have to be corrected at the homeowner's expense, or electricity will be shut off to the home. That's why it's smart to call us first, before you build.

High Voltage Safety Video

Safety is a core value at KU. It's inherent in every aspect of our business. Our commitment to public awareness is critical and is a top priority of our company. Our focus is not only on the safety of our workforce and our contractors, but it's on the safety of our valued customers.

This High Voltage Safety Demonstration video illustrates professional line tech employees demonstrating the potential real-life dangers associated with electrical power lines. This video presents the full-scale demonstration using a kite, TV antenna, tree branch and other interesting props to dramatically demonstrate what happens when they come in contact with a power line.
