Important information about your rates

Why did LG&E and KU file for this rate increase?

Since the last request for a base rate increase 18 months ago, LG&E and its sister utility, Kentucky Utilities Company, have invested more than $1.2 billion in additional generation, transmission and infrastructure improvements to ensure safe and reliable service. In addition, the utilities invested more than $133.7 million following two historic storms in 2008 and 2009. (The companies are requesting that the costs associated with the September 2008 wind storm and the January 2009 ice storm be spread over the next five years.)

The companies' base rate increases are, in large part, associated with covering the costs to meet the energy demands of our customers. This is extremely important as we work to continue providing the safe, reliable energy our customers expect from us. The following sections provide detailed information about the companies' requests.
