E.ON U.S. Announces "Plant for the Planet" Matching Grant Program
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — E.ON U.S., parent of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, today announced its support for "Plant for the Planet", a worldwide tree-planting effort founded by the United Nations.
As part of its commitment, E.ON U.S. has established a $75,000 matching grant program targeting environmental non-profits currently engaged in successful tree planting programs throughout the company's service territory. The announcement was made at Moore Traditional School during a tree planting ceremony.
Beginning in November of this year, non-profit organizations with demonstrated success in tree planting programs will be eligible to apply for funds to supplement such efforts by applying on-line through the E.ON U.S. Website. Successful grant applicants must also describe how their planned tree plantings will be consistent with E.ON U.S.'s "Right Tree in the Right Place" program. Grant recipients will be announced in January 2010.
"Our Plant for the Planet Program gives us an opportunity to support non-profit organizations already planting trees throughout Kentucky to beautify our communities and improve the environment," said Laura Douglas, Vice President Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs for E.ON U.S.
