Volunteers Begin 17th Annual Project Warm Blitz This Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More than 300 homes will be warmer and more energy efficient this year, thanks to the efforts of hundreds of community volunteers who on Saturday morning will begin to weatherize the homes of area low-income elderly and disabled citizens.

What: The first Saturday of the 17th Annual Project Warm Weatherization Blitz. More than 2,300 households have been helped since the inaugural Blitz in 1991.

The event is part of a larger weatherization campaign supported by Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company that also includes volunteer drives in Lexington, Elizabethtown, and Hodgenville.

Who: More than 600 volunteers from LG&E and various businesses, schools, churches and community organizations will join forces in this annual weatherization effort.

Volunteers will work in teams of up to five people and focus on simple weatherization techniques such as applying plastic to windows. The basic techniques can help customers save up to 20 percent on their heating bills.

When: Saturday, November 3.

Where: Please call LG&E's media hotline in advance for locations of clients. Teams will weatherize from 9:30 a.m. to noon this Saturday.

LG&E is a wholly-owned subsidiary of E.ON U.S. LLC that serves 324,000 natural gas and 398,000 electric customers in Louisville, Ky., and 16 surrounding counties.
