E.ON U.S. Employees Pitch in to Beautify State Parks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More than 300 employees of E.ON U.S. will perform volunteer service in 10 locations around the state to pitch in and help 'Clean Up the Commonwealth' at parks and nature preserves across the state this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The effort is a part of E.ON U.S.'s third annual Day of Caring, where employees from Louisville Gas and Electric Company, Kentucky Utilities Company and Western Kentucky Energy Corp. work on projects to improve the quality of life in the communities in which they live and work.

"Community involvement has always been a cornerstone of our company and its employees," said Chip Keeling, Vice President of Communications for E.ON U.S. "And, to bring hundreds of employees and their families together for work that will improve our environment speaks well for those people. It just demonstrates how they are willing to go beyond their daily work for the good of their community."

In Louisville Metro, LG&E volunteers will perform service at Jefferson County Memorial Forest. Volunteers will paint pavilions and park benches, clear trails and remove debris and litter.

KU volunteers will work in Lexington at the Arboretum to create a prairie and a hillside for a new children's garden. In Henderson, volunteers will clean up the riverbanks at Audubon Mill Park by removing trash and other debris.

Park locations were selected by the suggestions of employees or by local officials who welcomed the prospect of volunteer labor for improvement of their park grounds.

The 'Clean Up the Commonwealth' effort marks the third year for the E.ON U.S. Day of Caring. This year's effort — similar in size and scope of last year's 'Perk Up Our Parks' initiative — focuses on improving the environment as well as giving back to the communities the company serves.
