LG&E Powers Patriot Game IV

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) Police and firefighters normally have the same goal: to save lives. But at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 11, both groups will face-off again to score goals as part of a fund-raiser for The Healing Place, Louisville's largest homeless shelter and addiction recovery program.

The Patriot Game, sponsored again by LG&E, is designed to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11, honor the men and women of the Louisville Metro Police Department and Louisville Fire & Rescue, and raise needed funds for The Healing Place. This year, the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks, there will be a special 9/11 tribute during half-time. Mayor Jerry Abramson has designated Patriot Game IV as an official commemorative event for Louisville Metro.

In previous games, the Police won 70-67 and 82-80 in exciting contests that went down to the buzzer. Last year the Firefighters won 77-70 in an equally thrilling competition for the championship trophy. Game four gives them an opportunity to win their second game, but the police are determined to take it back this year.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and pre-game activities begin at 6 p.m. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale at the door on game day. Tickets are $10 for adults; children under 18 are free. In addition, every child will receive a free T-shirt, and a number of celebrity basketball players, including the teams from Bellarmine and University of Louisville, will be in attendance to sign autographs. The event website is www.patriotgame.com and the information hotline is (502) 212-2425.

The pre-game and half-time shows are scheduled to include a free-throw shooting competition by local TV and radio sports personalities; a special presentation by Sir Friendly "C;" performances by the Bellarmine University Dance Team, as well as teams from Iroquois and duPont Manual high schools; the LMPD Honor Guard presenting the colors; the Louisville Fire & Rescue Pipe & Drum Corps, and much more.

LG&E is a wholly-owned subsidiary of E.ON U.S. LLC that serves 321,000 natural gas and 394,000 electric customers in Louisville, Ky., and 16 surrounding counties.

The Healing Place is Louisville's solution for the addicted and homeless in our community, and the model for Recovery Kentucky. The Healing Place has been serving homeless men and women and their children since 1989 and is an award winning, nationally recognized program, having been named "A Model That Works" by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It provides a detox center, medical clinic, and long-term recovery program for its clients. Its mission is to reach the homeless, offer recovery for the addicted, and help restore productive lives. In January 2005, Gov. Ernie Fletcher announced "Recovery Kentucky," an incentive to provide 10 new shelter recovery centers statewide, using The Healing Place model.
