E.ON U.S. Employees Pitch in to 'Perk Up Our Parks'
08.03.2006

(Louisville, Ky.) More than 400 employees of E.ON U.S. will be in 10 locations around the state to pitch in and 'Perk Up' parks and nature preserves across the state this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The 'Perk Up Our Parks' effort is a part of the E.ON U.S. corporate Day of Caring, where employees from Louisville Gas and Electric Company, Kentucky Utilities Company and Western Kentucky Energy Corp. work on projects to improve the quality of life in the communities in which they live and work.

"Community involvement has always been a cornerstone or our company and its employees," said Chip Keeling, vice president of communications for E.ON U.S. "And, to bring 400 employees and their families together for work that will improve our environment speaks well for those people. It just demonstrates how they are willing to go beyond their daily work for the good of their community."

In Louisville Metro, the work will be in two locations. LG&E employees will help restore woodlands along the riverwalk in Shawnee Park. Other employees will spread mulch at Seneca Park. In Crestwood, volunteers will clear brush and perform planting preparations at Yew Dell Gardens.

Other locations for the 'Perk Up Our Parks' include two parks in Lexington, Audubon State Park in Henderson, General Butler State Park in Carrollton, Ben Hawes State Park in Owensboro, and community parks in Lancaster, Campbellsville, Central City and Dawson Springs.

The park locations were selected by the suggestions of employees or by local officials who welcomed the prospect of volunteer labor for improvement of their park grounds.

The 'Perk Up Our Parks' effort marks the second year for the E.ON U.S. Day of Caring. Last year, about 300 employees worked in four locations — the Center of Women and Families and the Salvation Army in Louisville, the Boy Scouts of America camp at Crooked Creek and at the Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort. This year's effort focused on improving the environment as well as giving back to the communities the company serves.
