Kentucky Utilities Public Safety Program to Visit Northside Elementary School
01.10.2006

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 9, 2006) From Lexington to London and Lawrenceburg to LaGrange, Kentucky Utilities' — a subsidiary of E.ON U.S. LLC — Public Safety Program is reaching more students than ever before due to an increased internet presence and in-school demonstrations delivered by the Company's Public Safety Coordinator.

This Wednesday, January 11, Steve Herron, E.ON U.S. Public Safety Coordinator, will teach more than 75 students the importance of electrical safety at Northside Elementary School located in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Using the "Mini-City" electric safety demonstration as a tool, Herron will convey an impactful safety message to students and teachers. More than 1,200 similar safety presentations will be made in schools and community events across Kentucky in 2006.

In addition to the presentation, Herron will share information about new online educational tools — Electric Universe and Energy Underground — that give teachers and students 24-hour access to resources that incorporate Kentucky's Core Content Curriculum. The websites — located at www.lge-ku.com/kids — assist teachers in preparing students for the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS). The site also includes electrical safety videos that can be downloaded and shared with students at home or in the classroom.

While the websites are an effective public safety addition, they do not replace in-school demonstrations that focus on electrical safety. Together, both are assets that deliver a powerful message to every student in the E.ON U.S. service territory.

"E.ON U.S. has always enjoyed a strong public safety record," said Herron. "To build on that solid foundation, we've increased our web presence and are more accessible than ever before."

In recent months, a Public Safety Scheduling Line (1-800-786-7547) was set-up as a tool for the public to make safety education requests. Targeted communication was also sent to the 1,500 schools in the E.ON U.S. service territory, making teachers more aware of the company's safety programs and resources. In addition, the Louie the Lightning Bug - Play It Safe Around Electricity series is used to target children in grades K-3.

Northside Elementary is located at 2415 U.S. Hwy. 27 North, in Cynthiana, Ky. Herron will present to the fourth-graders in Mr. Hombirg's science classes from 8:25 to noon this Wednesday.
