KU Launches Online Safety Program for Students
(LEXINGTON, Ky.) To educate children of all ages about the importance of electrical safety, Kentucky Utilities Company (KU) announced today that it has launched an online safety program for students K-12.
Electric Universe offers more than 400 web pages of informative, educational resources that include lesson plans and projects for teachers educating students about electricity. The website is available free-of-charge to all teachers in the Commonwealth.
KU's parent company, LG&E Energy, partnered with several schools in a month-long website pilot and held focus groups designed to allow science teachers to review the website and provide feedback. Their input was then used to improve each website before offering the programs to science teachers at all schools in Kentucky, including the 1,153 schools in LG&E Energy's service territory.
"We've worked with teachers and administrators across the state to tailor the website's content to incorporate Kentucky's Core Content Curriculum," said Laura Douglas, Director of External Communications for LG&E Energy. "The website plants the seed of awareness early by teaching students the importance of electrical safety. In addition, the website provides extensive information on the properties of light, heat, electricity and magnetism."
KU offers additional safety resources for children K-12, including the Louie the Lightning Bug Series, targeted for grades K-3 and Mini City Electric Safety Demonstrations, designed for grades 4-12 and beyond. For more information on these programs, visit the company website or call 1-800-786-7547 to schedule a safety demonstration.
KU, based in Lexington, Ky., provides reliable, low-priced electric energy to more than 512,000 customers in 77 Kentucky counties and five counties in southwestern Virginia. KU is a subsidiary of LG&E Energy LLC headquartered in Louisville, Ky.
