LG&E Offers Audits to Help Customers Save Energy
(LOUISVILLE, Ky. - July 8, 2005) As temperatures continue to stay in the 90s, homeowners are looking for ways to stay cool and keep energy costs under control. For the cost-conscious, Louisville Gas and Electric Company (LG&E) offers low-cost energy audits that allow customers to better manage energy use.
For $15, LG&E customers can request an energy specialist to examine their home inside and out, check the insulation in the attic, inspect the living area, look at the energy input of the heating and air conditioning system and water heater, test the temperature of the hot water, and ask general questions about thermostat settings and lifestyles. After the audit, a detailed report of energy-saving measures appropriate for the home and the estimated cost for those improvements is sent back to the customer.
Based on the particular needs of the customer, an energy specialist will also install up to $60 of free energy conservation devices. These include an energy-efficient shower head, faucet aerators for the kitchen and bathroom, water heater wrap (if needed) and a compact fluorescent bulb. These devices alone can contribute to increased energy savings.
"Our main goal is to give our customers the tools to save energy and recommend a plan of action to make their homes more energy efficient," said Shirley Campbell, Residential Program Manager at LG&E.
The audits also create year-round savings for customers. "The improvements made in the summer months will continue to cut costs in the winter, because stopping air from escaping your house is a key ingredient to energy efficiency, regardless of the season," said Campbell.
The $15 fee can be applied to a customer's bill. For more information or to receive an application, call (800) 251-7808 or visit the company's website.
LG&E is a wholly-owned subsidiary of LG&E Energy LLC that serves 318,000 natural gas and 390,000 electric customers in Louisville, Ky., and 16 surrounding counties.
