LG&E Energy Foundation's Streetball Showdown Raises $90,000
(Louisville, Ky. - June 29, 2004) Once again, the LG&E Energy Foundation Streetball Showdown was a success, netting more than $90,000 for the Cabbage Patch Settlement House. The 17th annual event held near Louisville's Waterfront June 26 and 27 featured about 2,000 players, comprised of teams of four, grouped by age and playing experience.
More than 10 percent of The Cabbage Patch Settlement House operating budget comes from proceeds raised through Streetball Showdown. In terms of attendance, the LG&E Energy Foundation has grown to be one of the top ten festivals in Metro Louisville, allowing the community to come together in the spirit of friendly competition.
"Streetball Showdown draws a diverse group of players from all across the state," said Tracy Holladay, executive director of The Cabbage Patch Settlement House. "Whether you're a former college star and blacktop legend or a driveway hero wearing more braces than Jan Brady, there's a place for you in this competition."
The Cabbage Patch — a 93-year-old nonprofit organization that empowers families and children to be self-sufficient — will use proceeds raised through Streetball Showdown to help fund programs and services such as Youth Development, Educational Opportunities, and Family Counseling.
"At LG&E Energy, we believe that great organizations are defined not just by the companies they are — their character and their capability — but also by the company they keep," said Laura Douglas, director of external communications for LG&E Energy. "It's a great honor for us to support the remarkable work of The Cabbage Patch by sponsoring the Streetball Showdown."
The LG&E Energy Foundation is an independent, nonprofit business entity established in 1994 to support education, community outreach, environmental projects and the arts in the communities served by LG&E Energy LLC and its subsidiaries. The Foundation has awarded more than $13.2 million in grants.
