Come Enjoy Some Good Old-Fashioned Horse Play Streetball Showdown "Tip-Off" Event to Feature Mayor Abramson, Luke Whitehead
(Louisville, Ky. - April 12, 2004) To kick-off the registration drive for this year's LG&E Energy Foundation Streetball Showdown, several local dignitaries will "tip-off" the River City's biggest-ever game of "HORSE," on Wednesday, April 14, at 2:45 p.m. at the Cabbage Patch Settlement House gym, located at 1413 S. 6th Street.
Louisville Metro Mayor Jerry Abramson, Louisville Metro Police Chief Robert White, Luke Whitehead, and local media personalities will go head-to-head to see who has the sweetest jump-shot, lay-up and hook-shot this side of Freedom Hall.
Although the winner will be determined by who misses the least amount of shots, the real champions will be the families and children served by The Cabbage Patch Settlement House, who are the direct beneficiaries of the proceeds raised through the LG&E Energy Foundation Streetball Showdown.
The "Tip-Off" event will begin with speeches from Mayor Jerry Abramson, Tracy Holladay, executive director of The Cabbage Patch Settlement House and Laura Douglas, LG&E Energy's director of external communications, but the real fun begins at 3 p.m. when the players take to the court.
"We know the players are champions in the community - now we get to see how they fare on the hardwood," said Laura Douglas, LG&E Energy's director of External Communications. "In addition, this game will help drive Streetball Showdown registrations that will benefit a great organization that provides much needed services in our community."
