LG&E Energy to Focus on Conservation, Safety at Kentucky State Fair

(LOUISVILLE, Ky. – August 11, 2003) It's Kentucky State Fair time, and LG&E Energy will be there Aug. 14-24, educating the public about safety and conservation in light of projections for higher natural gas prices this winter.

The Company's corporate booth, located in the East Wing of the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center (KFEC), will feature mini-city demonstrations about electric safety and conservation messages.

Employees also will hand out give-a-ways to help customers understand the national issue of rising natural gas costs and be prepared to handle this winter's projected higher natural gas prices.

"Our primary focus is to educate our customers on the national issue of rising natural gas costs. The state fair is a perfect avenue to reach so many of our customers and even those who aren't. We want to use this setting as a way to encourage the public to conserve energy," said Chip Keeling, Vice President of Communications.

The mini-city display emphasizes safety in a variety of scenarios. For instance, it highlights the dangers of flying a kite or operating farm machinery near power lines. The mini-city also covers unlikely, but potentially dangerous situations, including a guy wire becoming energized.

In addition to the corporate booth, LG&E Energy will partner with the Division of Energy (DOE) by providing demand-side management program information to customers who visit the DOE's Energy Star exhibit, located in the KFEC's South Wing. The Energy Star display will showcase energy efficient home improvements and appliances.
