LG&E and KU Green Energy is a Green-e Energy® Certified program, which requires companies offering certified products to provide customers with notice of price, terms and conditions of service. For more information about the Green-e Energy program, write Green-e, PO Box 29512, San Francisco, CA 94129 or visit the Green-e Energy website at:

Where does my money go? What does it buy?
To make the difference, we have to pay the difference, and your Green Energy purchases are doing just that. Your Green Energy dollars purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) produced with corresponding electricity from regional renewable resources not owned by LG&E or KU (but are on the same transmission grids).
RECs represent the environmental benefits of the underlying electricity. Since renewable energy costs more than traditional forms of energy to produce, voluntary purchases of RECs are needed to help develop a local renewable energy economy.
Whom should I contact for more information?
Residential and commercial customers should contact Customer Service (LG&E, KU). Large commercial and industrial customers should contact their Key Account Representative for additional information.
How will I be billed?
You will see a line item on your monthly LG&E/KU bill reflecting the amount of your Green Energy purchase. The amount of your purchase will be included in the total amount due on each of your monthly billing statements.
How will Green Energy appear on my bill?
Small Green Energy — Homes and Small Businesses
If you are a Residential (RS rate) or Small Commercial (GS rate) customer, you will see a $5 charge on each of your monthly billing statements for each 300 kilowatt hour (kWh) block of Green Energy you purchase. You may purchase as many 300 kWh Blocks of Green Energy as you choose.
If you are a Medium or Large Commercial customer, you will see a $13 charge on your monthly bill for each 1,000 kWh block of Green Energy you purchase. You may buy as many 1,000 kWh Blocks of Green Energy as you choose; however, you may not purchase partial Blocks of Green Energy. The amount of your Green Energy purchase will appear on your monthly bill and be included in the total amount due for as long as you participate. Once enrolled, you are committed to the program for at least 12 months.
How much will my total electricity service cost, including utility charges?
Green Energy is $5 per 300 kilowatt hour (kWh) block, and the average residential customer uses roughly 900 kWh of electricity each month. Therefore, to match average monthly usage with Green Energy, you would purchase three blocks of Green Energy. The amount of your support is in addition to your regular monthly electricity charges.
Will my Green Energy rates change over time?
While the cost of regular electricity may vary, the premium for Green Energy will remain consistent until at least June 1, 2010.
What fuel sources will be used to generate my green energy?
Our Green Energy product is sourced from Kentucky and its immediately adjacent states. We purchase this renewable energy in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Please also see the Product Content Label for additional details on the product mix.
What length of agreement is required?
There is no minimum length of agreement for Residential and Small Commercial customers. Participants remain enrolled until they choose to cancel. Residential and Small Commercial customers can cancel at any time without penalty, but once they cancel, they cannot re-enroll for 12 months.
Medium and Large Commercial customers must sign a one-year agreement and remain enrolled in Green Energy for the term of their agreement.
If I want to terminate this agreement, what is the early termination fee?
There is no termination fee for Residential and Small Commercial customers.
Medium and Large Commercial customers are responsible for at least one year of charges of Green Energy based on the number of blocks they agreed to purchase.
What other fees might I be charged?
No other fees apply.
