your home's central air conditioning unit. Demand Conservation helps reduce peak demand,
enabling us to use our power plants more efficiently and delay the addition of new ones. As a
bonus, we'll credit your utility bill $5 per month (up to $20 annually) for each of the summer months
(June, July, August and September) per central air conditioning unit. If you rent, you may also be
eligible. Sign up today online, by email or by calling us toll-free at 1-866-857-COOL (2665).
Share the Load!
In the energy business, "load" is the amount of energy a system is using at any given time. During
the year, the amount of energy needed - or the "energy demand" - fluctuates depending on
weather conditions or business hours of commercial or industrial companies. When demand for
electricity is highest, that's called a "peak" period. Every customer shares the load on the system
to some degree every single day, and Demand Conservation allows customers to share the load at
times during heavy demand or peak usage.Help the Environment!
With Demand Conservation, you help maintain a ready supply of energy for our expanding
community. In the long run, you benefit because of the reduced environmental effects and costs of
building and operating new power plants for peak demand use. By demanding conservation, you
can make a significant contribution to energy efficiency, increase the energy reliability in your
neighborhood and help keep energy costs low.Get Paid!
By signing up for this free program, Demand Conservation, you will receive a credit on your
monthly utility bill in the amount of $5 per month (up to $20 annually) for each of the four summer
months (June, July, August and September) for each central air conditioning unit you have on the
program.How Demand Conservation Works
- At no cost to you, a small device is connected to your central air conditioner. This device allows us to safely cycle central air conditioners off and on for brief periods during peak usage days during the summer - but only when absolutely necessary to conserve energy during heavy demand.
- When cycling is necessary, air conditioners will cycle off for a few minutes each half hour on summer weekdays between late afternoon and early evening.
- Typically, cycling occurs no more than 20 days a year - but never on weekends or holidays.
- Remember, when cycling occurs, the air conditioner blower fan continues to operate, circulating colled air inside your home. Most people are not even aware when their air conditioner is being cycled. That's the best part! Since your air conditioner fan is never shut off, your house will remain cool and comfortable.
- Electric water heaters may qualify for additional credit.
